Ballet Positions, Moves and Techniques

Becoming an accomplished dancer is no easy task, and learning basics such as the five positions of the arms and feet is just the start. Ballet technique emphasises resistance to gravity. Since all the movements of the dancer's limbs flow from the body's vertical axis, all of the dancer's body parts must be correctly centred and aligned to allow maximum balance and easy movement. The more advanced ballet steps and movements may be used effectively to convey meaning and emotion.
